Youth leaders from around the world participated in the ECOSOC Youth Forum from 25 to 27 April 2023 in a hybrid format, during which government representatives, youth delegates, policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders in civil society and the private sector had an opportunity to interact with them.

The Youth Forum also gathered young people to share their recommendations and innovative ideas in preparation of the SDG Summit under the theme; “Accelerating the COVID-19 recovery and full implementation of the 2030 Agenda with and for youth”.

This year, the Big Brainstorm brought together more than 2,500 young people from 136 countries with the mission to mobilize action ahead of the SDG Summit. These young people now continue to develop their ideas into action through the Engine Room.

The Engine Room is a global virtual forum where young changemakers can forge connections, collaborate and mobilize their impact at the Big Brainstorm, hosted by the United Nations Foundation’s Our Future Agenda program.

The Engine Room works across eight thematic areas, each one with the responsibility of an Action Group.

SDG Summit

The African Youth Mentorship Project (AYMP) was developed independently and became part of the Jobs action group after the Big Brainstorm.

AYMP led by Esther Ajudeonu seeks to equip students with career guidance that will help them make informed decisions that align with their passion with the aim to impact over 3000 young people in secondary schools across Africa with career guidance and mentorship during the first year of implementation.

In commemoration of International Youth Day on the 12th of August 2023, AYMP is planning a physical Youth symposium in 11 African countries themed; “Building Young leaders, with Technological, and Entrepreneurial skills for the Advancement of the African Continent”,.

We look forward to bringing together Youth Change makers to discuss our common challenges and way forward, officially launch the AYMP for the academic year 2023-2024 and provide a platform for Youths to meaningfully engage, take action and become agents of change in their communities. There will also be expert speakers who will guide, motivate and share techniques on profitable career paths and skills needed to stay relevant in the job market.

The last phase of the project will be pairing up students and mentors for career orientation, scholarship application and how to prepare for a job or an embassy interview.
