International day for the Elimination of Violence in Women is on the 25th of
November, this year UN Women are carrying out advocacy and sensitization
about GBV using their traditional 16th day Activism under the THEME:
“UNiTE! Activism to end violence against women and girls”.

During the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign,
which ends on International Human Rights Day on 10 December, focus,
campaign, advocacy and sensitization will center around preventing
violence against women and girls.

What better method can be used to push forward when more than 1 in 3
women experience gender-based violence during their lifetime but less
than 40% of these women who experience violence seek help of any
sort.

Today women and Girls are violated in Schools, at Home, in Church and
even at the office, nowhere is safe thus, you have to build healthy
boundaries and know when you are at risk and identify your potential
perpetrator.

Take action by avoiding HE/SHE and seek help if you feel your life is in
danger regardless of the status of the person.

There is only 1 conclusion you need to draw- RUN TO SAFETY

There are 2 possibilities, you can either do it; by yourself or seek help

There are 3 red flags to help you stay alert

-Pressure to have sex, use drugs or take alcohol
-Isolation From Family or Friends
-Insults, Intimidation and Threats

Amaan Africa volunteers have 4 ways we assist victims get help;
LISTEN, INVESTIGATE, PROTECT AND SUPPORT.

If 100 Women and Girls are violated and ONLY 40% seek help then there is
a huge 60% Women and Girls trapped and suffocating.

What else do you think can be done to solve this imbalance?share your
thoughts with us through email or on the comment section of our social
media handles on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram or Twitter

Take a commitment today not to mock victims or stigmatize them when they
come out to speak and seek help.
